Q: Do reusable swim nappies hold in wee?
A: No — and this is actually by design. Baby Swim Nappies (both reusable and disposable) are not made to absorb urine. They are designed specifically to contain solids only. The waterproof outer layer allows water to flow in and out freely, which is essential for swimming. A regular nappy would swell up and become enormously heavy in the water within seconds.

Q: What is the difference between a swim nappy and a regular nappy?
A: A regular cloth nappy or regular disposable nappy is designed to absorb liquid, which makes it completely unsuitable for the pool or beach — it will balloon out with water almost instantly. A swim nappy has a waterproof outer shell that lets water pass through freely, while the snug elastic leg and waist openings are designed to trap and contain solids. That's it — it's a containment nappy, not an absorbency nappy.

Q: What size swim nappy do I need for my baby?
A: The Baby Beehinds Swim Nappy is one-size-fits-most and adjusts from 3kg to 16kg using the rise snaps on the front. Simply adjust the snaps to match your baby's current size for a snug, secure fit. For toddlers or bigger babies over 16kg, we recommend the Junior Swim Nappy is specifically sized for larger kids but is still adjustable.

Q: Does a reusable swim nappy actually hold in poo?
A: Yes — that's the whole point. The Baby Beehinds Swim Nappy uses wide leg and waist elastics specifically designed to contain solids securely. The key is making sure you adjust the rise snaps to the correct size for a firm, snug fit. If the nappy is too loose, nothing will contain what it needs to. Thousands of our customers have confirmed it does the job — and we've won multiple awards for it, including Best Swim Nappy at the Cloth Nappy Awards and Best Outdoor Product at the 2024 My Child Awards.

Q: Can my baby wear a reusable swim nappy on its own, or does it need to go under swimmers?
A: Either way works perfectly. The swim nappy can be worn on its own as a standalone swimwear item, or underneath regular swimmers if you prefer. Many parents love wearing it on its own — especially in one of our fun prints or recycled PUL patterns — so your little one looks stylish poolside without needing an extra layer.

Q: How do I wash a reusable swim nappy?
A: After swimming, simply wring out any excess water and pop it into a wet bag until you get home. Then wash by hand or in the machine on a quick cycle with your usual detergent, and line dry. If you're using it daily while on holiday, a quick rinse under plain water between swims is perfectly fine — just do a full machine wash every few days to properly remove any chlorine or salt buildup.

Q: Do I need more than one reusable swim nappy?
A: For most families, one is plenty. You wash it after each swim and it's ready to go again next time. The only situation where you might want a second is if you're swimming every single day and don't have time to wash and dry it overnight — in that case, having a spare to rotate between makes life easier. Some swim schools also require a double-nappy system (a reusable swim nappy worn under a disposable), so it's worth checking your local pool's rules.

Q: How long will a reusable swim nappy last?
A: The one-size-fits-most design adjusts as your child grows from 3kg right up to 16kg, so a single swim nappy can last from early infancy through to toddlerhood. Based on feedback from our customers, many families report using theirs for 18 months to 3 years before needing to size up to the Junior version. It's genuinely great value compared to buying disposable swim nappies every single time you hit the pool.

  1. Simply wring out any excess liquid when you're done swimming and pop into your wet bag until you get home.
  2. Either wash by hand or pop in your washing machine on a quick cycle, with your favourite detergent.
  3. Line Dry If you're using it daily on holidays, then a quick hand rinse under plain water is fine then wash in your machine every few days to remove any chlorine.
